Studio Radicals features in-depth interviews with some of music’s most innovative minds.

Created by dCS and journalist Kate Hutchinson, the series spotlights composers, producers and engineers who are crafting unique sounds and bringing a fresh approach to music production.

Across eight episodes, we talk to them about their process, passions and inspiration. We also explore how music is made and what it takes to create a hit record.

In our first episode, Kate travels to Studio Zona, the East London space where Marta Salogni helps artists to build richly layered and evocative sonic worlds.

Known for her sonic experimentation and creative use of analogue tape machines, Marta has worked with some of music’s most progressive and daring artists, from Björk to fka twigs and Ela Minus. She produced English Teacher’s acclaimed debut album, This Could Be Texas, which won the coveted Mecury Music Prize in 2024 and received a GRAMMY nomination for her work on Bon Iver’s i’i.

She often draws inspiration from her surroundings, whether she’s recording in Greece, Iceland or the Mojave desert, and believes in approaching the record-making process with an open mind.

In Episode 1, Kate speaks with Marta about her route into music and her love of sculpting sound. Marta also reflects on what it means to be a studio radical and shares stories from recent collaborations with Bon Iver, Black Midi and Westerman.
