“When [dCS] invited me to select some music, I imagined making a listening DJ set for you all. This tells a story of the music that has changed my ears over the years, [tracks] that I would now intuitively choose on a sunny afternoon.” - Bex Burch
Bex Burch is a classically trained percussionist, composer, producer and improviser driven by her desire to “embrace new musical challenges”.
To date, she has collaborated with various musicians from Dame Evelyn Glennie to Leafcutter John, Macie Stewart and Thomas Sekgura, founded a post-punk group and music label (Vula Viel), and released an acclaimed solo album (2023’s There is only love and fear), alongside producing records, and curating radio shows for Worldwide FM and Radio 4.
Her music mixes instrumental, human and natural sounds to thrilling effect, and draws on a diverse set of genres from avant-garde to minimalism.
In our latest guest-curated playlist for the dCS Edit, we asked Bex to curate a selection of tracks that have inspired her. The resulting playlist – created for the dCS Edit – includes a suitably varied collection from some wonderfully talented musicians and ensembles, including Sun Ra Arkestra, Jeff Parker, Oscar Aviles and Corey Mwamba,
You can listen to the playlist on TIDAL or Qobuz via the links above.
