We recognise that purchasing high-end audio is an investment, and we believe this should be rewarded with exceptional products, expert aftercare, and many years of inspiring moments. Here, we set out the benefits we strive to provide for those who choose to listen with dCS
Listening to music is one of life’s greatest pleasures. As music lovers ourselves, we understand the importance of music in our customer’s lives, and the immense satisfaction that experiencing great sound can bring. We also recognise that purchasing an audio system is a significant investment. Choosing a set of products that will live in your home for many years and be at the centre of some of your most cherished moments, is a big decision, and one that requires careful consideration.
At dCS, our primary goal is to deliver many years of musical enjoyment and discovery for listeners – creating exceptional products that bring them a deeper connection with their music.
We strive to inspire listeners with continued innovation – improving products throughout their lifespan so we can keep enhancing people’s experience and bringing them new features and benefits.
Beyond this, we aim to provide expert support for all those who wish to invest in dCS – ensuring that our listeners receive the support they need to build their perfect system and experience the best sound possible from their dCS components.
Here, we set out the steps we have taken in order to achieve this – from engineering and production practices, to our partnerships with leading industry experts…
Exceptional Products, Built to Last
Our number one aim is to bring customers an outstanding musical experience. In musical terms, we believe this means creating products that deliver excellent resolution – revealing the finest of details, and delivering sound with the utmost clarity. To achieve this, we work tirelessly to ensure our products deliver exceptional performance across a range of key areas – reducing noise and distortion to the lowest possible levels, and delivering excellent linearity (in other words, a faithfulness to the original audio signal) at all signal levels.
This is achieved through rigorous testing and measurement, exhaustive research and development, and determination – in other words, not stopping until we are sure that a product offers the best possible performance and, in turn, the best possible sound.
We adopt a performance-led approach, and this informs each design decision we make – from the choice of materials used in our products, to the layout of internal components. We build bespoke technologies from the ground up – from novel clocking techniques to bespoke interfaces and D-A conversion systems – so that we can set new standards in sonic fidelity. With each product we create, we continue to push ourselves further, exploring how we can bring people an even more profound musical experience. This desire to advance and improve is what drives us – and what shapes our approach to developing products.
Alongside this, we strive to create audio components that will inspire listeners for many years to come. We utilise flexible firmware in our products, which allows us to deliver new features and sonic improvements throughout a component’s lifespan, ensuring it remains state of the art in its abilities and feature set.
When designing products, we select the best available finishes and materials, and we create with future evolution in mind – making sure that products can adapt as new technologies emerge, and listeners’ needs, setups and spaces evolve.
Whilst audio products are rarely thought of as heirlooms, we believe a great component should be timeless – able to deliver an outstanding experience for as long as someone chooses to listen – and this ethos is reflected across our design process, influencing everything from software and hardware engineering to industrial and mechanical design. All this means our products often remain in use for decades – with many listeners still using 10, 20 and even 30-year-old dCS products…
All dCS products are designed, built and assembled at our Cambridgeshire headquarters. Our skilled technicians put each product together by hand, working meticulously to fit electronics and casework with the utmost care. Once products are assembled, we use custom-built equipment to assess performance across all possible configurations – running in some cases thousands of tests to ensure each product behaves as it should.
We also conduct numerous inspections at various stages of build to ensure products are constructed to the highest standards, and that each individual part meets our strict criteria. Metalwork, for example, is inspected three times before casework is applied – once pre-machining, one post-machining, and once after anodising or painting – so we can ensure that fascias and enclosures are free of defects and blemishes.
New Features, Upgrades & Sonic Improvements
We believe that a product should continue to improve in its performance and feature set. We also believe that those who invest in our products should be able to benefit from our latest discoveries and innovations as we develop them. We have always invested in continual product development – which means even after a product is released, we continue exploring how we can improve its sound, performance and user experience.
“
When we develop a product at dCS, it's just the beginning. From that point on we are constantly thinking of ways to improve
”
- David Steven, dCS Managing Director
Our Vivaldi, Rossini, Bartók and Lina ranges have all received major software updates in recent years, which have brought notable sonic improvements, along with new features to streamline and enhance system control and playback. We also launched APEX, a major hardware upgrade for our Vivaldi, Rossini and Bartók DACs and Players in 2022 and 2023, which brought measured and sonic improvements in a range of areas.
Our team work year-round to monitor feedback, and identify how and where we can improve product functions and features. Whenever we develop a new innovation – be it a new feature such as enhanced headphone listening performance, or a hardware upgrade such as Ring DAC APEX – we deliver this to existing owners wherever possible, instead of reserving it purely for future product lines. All this means that we are able to bring listeners new benefits throughout their ownership journey – and share our latest developments with them as we progress.
“
I feel like we have a duty to repay the investment of our customers by providing upgrades through the life of the product and to make sure that it truly is an investment … not something which you replace after a couple of years
”
- Chris Hales, dCS Product Development Director
